Winter Break Kits for Barry County Students
Like most of nature, Pierce Cedar Creek Institute is gearing up for the upcoming snowy season! Every winter, while the rest of the ecosystem slows down and prepares for hibernation and the cold season, PCCI ramps up and makes it a mission to provide Barry County students with free winter break kits to encourage kids of all ages to continue exploring outside and engaging in hands-on environmental learning during winter break!
The kits are divided into age groups, with options for children aged birth to 2 years, preschoolers, early elementary students, upper elementary students, and teens. All kits have been made possible for the past five years through partnerships with several local organizations. Producing over 800 kits relies on a community effort, with volunteers, local libraries, PCCI staff, and community partners working together to plan materials for each age group. Each kit contains age-appropriate materials, including things like books, art projects, journals, science materials, games, and snacks. We also include flyers to help families connect with local service providers. For many families in our community, these kits offer opportunities to spend quality time together and learn.
Pierce Cedar Creek Institute staff have already started collecting materials for these kits. However, due to recent state and federal funding cuts to our community partners, we are seeking additional help in sourcing some of the needed materials. This is where you come in. If you want to be part of the solution and help educate students across Barry County, we’ve included the link to the winter break kits’ Amazon wish list below. This link will automatically add materials to each winter break kit and ensure educational supplies reach the students in our community.
With winter break less than 8 weeks away, now is the time to contribute and support the students in your community! On behalf of the PCCI staff and all the students in Barry County, thank you for your consideration.
See you on the trails,
The Pierce Cedar Creek Institute Staff
