Pierce Cedar Creek Institute wishes to share an important update with our community.

After years of dedicating her creativity, intellect, and heart to the Institute, Dr. Ellen Holste will be transitioning out of her role at PCCI on December 5. Ellen has played a meaningful role in shaping our programs, deepening our connections with the community, and helping tell the story of this special place. Her passion for ecology, education, engagement, and fungi has left a lasting impact on our team and on the many people she has inspired along the way

Ellen’s journey at PCCI has been marked by curiosity, compassion, and a deep commitment to connecting people with the natural world. During her time here, she also uncovered two callings that grew even stronger – public speaking and writing. We are excited to support her as she steps forward to pursue these passions more fully. This next chapter represents a wonderful opportunity for her continued growth, creativity, and contribution well beyond the Institute.

While we will miss her presence on the trails, in classrooms, and at community events, we are incredibly grateful for everything she brought to PCCI. Ellen will always be part of the PCCI family, and we look forward to cheering her on as she brings her gifts to new audiences.

Please join us in thanking Ellen for her many contributions and in wishing her all the best in her next adventure.

A Message from Ellen

“I am deeply grateful for the past nine years at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute—years filled with learning, great colleagues, and countless friendships that I will forever cherish. I have enjoyed growing PCCI’s educational and research programming. Trick-or-Treating on the Trails, Fun Fridays, Book Club, Accessible Tours, and numerous other programs will always be special to me.

It also makes my heart happy to see volunteer involvement in the many community science programs we have been able to grow within the last few years. As I step into a new chapter in life, I am excited to focus on spending time with my family, developing a mushroom ABC children’s book, and growing my new business, EnviroSpeak (@EnviroSpeakLLC.com), where I will continue to share my passion for science and nature through talks and creating meaningful connections to the natural world.

I will miss you all, but I am excited to see what the future brings. I know you will continue to do great work!”

We wish you all the best, Dr. Holste! Happy Trails, Forever Grateful for YOU!
