Plein Air Artists

Pierce Cedar Creek Institute attracts a diverse range of people. This is just part of the magic of PCCI and the land we are fortunate to protect. One group that doesn’t get featured enough —and which PCCI is lucky to host, not once but twice a year —is the Plein Air Artists of West Michigan. With two dedicated weekends —one in spring/early summer and another in the fall —these painters get the rare opportunity to experience the Institute in full bloom and color throughout the year.

Plein Air artists, who paint outdoors in natural light, come from all around Michigan with a shared passion: to find stunning landscapes and create works inspired by the places that speak to them. Their time and care are evident in every brushstroke, each piece a reflection of their deep connection to the land. These painters are only some of PCCI’s thoughtful guests, taking the time to truly see and feel the beauty that defines not only the Institute but also many parts of Barry County.

There will always be art coming right out of Barry County as long as there is beauty to be found. In today’s fast-paced world, instant gratification and the excitement of what’s out there often take center stage. The world online is always telling us that we need to seek out other countries and environments to find gorgeous landscapes, but beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is everywhere – it just takes a moment of stillness and appreciation to see it.

The days when artists come into the Visitor Center and spread out across PCCI property, easels and brushes in hand, bring a light and energy across the property. Barry County is truly lucky to see enthusiastic artists time and time again as they capture what deserves to be preserved.

See you on the trails,
