2011 - Near Nature: Synthetic Plants Found Naturally

Rebecca Brand, Western Michigan University

Rebecca Brand, a student at Western Michigan University, was selected for the 2011 Gordon Art Fellowship. She is double majoring in environmental studies and fine arts with an emphasis in photography and intermedia. Brand has been published in both Best of Photography 2010 as well as Best of College Photography 2010 by Photographer's Forum Magazine.

In her Gordon Art Fellowship photography exhibit titled Near Nature, Brand creatively juxtaposes synthetic plants with plants that are naturally found on the property in each image. She explains, “These images are meant to encourage viewers to become more aware of the natural world by asking them to consider what may or may not be a natural experience”. She hopes to provoke thought in her viewers about the actions and choices they make to their natural surroundings.
