Ecology for Pre-Service TeachersThis three-week course with lab is designed to teach pre-service teachers ecology and improve their science skills in the classroom. Much of the class takes place in the field and is driven by activities and research. Participants will be using activities to learn about the natural world and discussing how to teach these concepts to students. The class was developed in collaboration with a consortium of local universities and colleges. Course work includes an independent research project. Participants will also have an opportunity to develop lessons and activities for the classroom. They can practice these lessons at the Family Science Night where area students and parents are invited to participate in hands-on ecology activities. The course fee includes tuition and classroom materials. There is a nominal fee for room and board. Residency is required during the week. Students stay in air-conditioned dormitory-style lodging at the Institute. Meals are prepared by our chef and include options for all dietary needs. A computer lab and wireless internet access are available on site.
